2007-2008 Officers

Officers for 2007-2008

The following people have been elected to serve as chapter officers for the 2007-2008 calendar year. Congratulations! The chapter would like to thank all the officers who served this year for all their hard work and dedication.

President: Katie Del Giudice

SAMSUNG DIGIMAX 360

Year: ending Second Year
Program: HF and Applied Experimental Psychology
Research: Cognitive factors in information systems (mainly the WWW at the moment)
Hopes for next year: I’d like to promote the chapter as a forum for research and as an opportunity for students to get feedback from other students in the program on their thoughts/ideas/and research projects. To that end, it would also be great to start a brown bag series to get professors around campus involved with the chapter. Last but not least, I’d like to encourage members to get more involved in the chapter by promoting the online forum (yes, this WILL work eventually) and deciding on one or two major projects to be completed over the course of the year.

Vice President: Jessica Ray

jessicar

Hi everyone, for those who have not met me, my name is Jessica and I am a first year AEHF PhD student. I graduated from Rollins College in May 2005 with a B.A in Psychology. In addition to school, for the past several years I have worked for my family’s educational software company (AI)2, Inc. in both sales and software development. I am interested in how psychological principles and technology can be combined to create effective training and educational systems. Both my work and research thus far have focused on studying the components that combine to inform instructional design and the development of intelligent tutoring systems. Beyond my research and work I have organizational experience as co-president of the Rollins College chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I held the volunteer post of recording secretary with the Greater Orlando Hunter Jumper Association for two years. I have enjoyed being a member of the HFES student chapter since starting at UCF. Next year I would hope to promote growth in membership participation. I would also like to see more professional development opportunities and additional student and recent graduate research presentations.

Treasurer: Tim Smoker

I hope to work in industry after I graduate and eventually teach at a college or university somewhere.

Secretary: Sidra Van de Car

I am a fourth year student in the Applied Experimental and Human Factors Ph.D. program. My research interests include aspects of cognition, attention, signal detection theory, cognitive science, and educational psychology. In addition to being a student, I also teach full-time (usually in the evenings) and, consequently, would have limited availability to conduct HFES business in the late afternoons during the week (I would generally be unavailable after about 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, but happy to be a part of the organization any other time). I look forward to helping with the organization and growth of the chapter.
