Marika Gilbert graduated in December 2016 and worked in the lab for five semesters. Marika completed a HIM thesis that examined the relationship between sexual content in music and female objectification and sexualization. Her will be presented at the 2017 convention of the Southeastern Psychological Association.

Nicole Nowotny graduated in December 2016. She worked in the lab for four semesters. Nicole completed a HIM thesis that examined sexual media and sexual cognitions among participants. Her thesis was presented at the 2016 national convention of the Association for Psychological Science.

Kelcey has been accepted into the Ph.D. program in Clinical Science at Florida International University. Congratulations!

Barbara completed a HIM thesis that examined family struggles and substance use among first generation college students. Her work will be presented at the 2016 convention of the Association for Psychological Science. Barbara has been accepted into the Mental Health Counseling Program at UCF. Congratulations!

natashaNatasha Vashist graduated in May 2015. She worked in the lab for three semesters and presented her work at the WRUS, SURE, APS, FURC,  and UPS. Natasha completed a HIM thesis that examined misogynistic humor on perceptions of women. Her work has been published in UCF’s Undergraduate Research Journal.

kellyKelly Silberman graduated in May 2015. Kelly worked in the lab for six semesters and presented her work at the Association for Psychological Science. Kelly completed a HIM thesis that examined how media influences the driving behaviors of adolescents and emerging adults. Her work is currently being considered for publication. She has been accepted into the graduate program in Social Work at Florida State University. Congratulations!!

Michelle Craske graduated in May 2014. She worked in the lab for five semesters and had a total of 11 presentations at the WRUS, SURE, FURC, and APS. Michelle completed her HIM thesis on the normalization of risky sexual behaviors as a result of media exposures to sexual content. Her thesis was awarded the HIM competitive scholarship as well as 2nd place in the Social Sciences Division at the 2014 SURE. Michelle’s research is currently being considered for publication. Michelle was accepted into the graduate program in sociology at UCF. Congratulations!

Deedra’s HIM thesis focused on music’s influence on substance use and was awarded a HIM competitive scholarship for her work. Currently, Deedra’s research is currently being considered for publication.

SURE 2013 - Jessica Brandt (2)Jessica Brandt graduated in the Fall of 2013. She worked in the lab for a total of 4 semesters and had a total of 8 presentations at the WRUS, SURE, and APA. Jessica completed her HIM thesis on media influences on the sexualization of women and was awarded both the HIM competitive scholarship and the Burnett Research Scholars grant for her work. She was recognized as the Research of the Month by the OUR in November, 2013. Her co-authored manuscript with Dr. Wright has recently been accepted for publication.

SURE 2013 - Kendra Bartel (2)Kendra Bartel graduated in the Spring of 2013. Kendra worked in the lab for 3 semesters and had 6 local presentations at the WRUS, SURE, and APS. Kendra’s HIM thesis examined music influences on anxiety and depression among young adults and was awarded both a HIM scholarship and Burnett Honors Scholars Grant. Kendra served as secretary for the Western Region Psychology Club and worked with other students in the Western Region to get the club started. She was also deemed a ‘Shining Knight’ in Summer 2013. Kendra was accepted into the Psy.D. program at FIT and began her studies in the Fall of 2013.

Erum Qureshi graduated in the Spring of 2013. Erum worked in the lab for 6 semesters and had a total of 10 presentations at the WRUS, SURE, APS, APA, SRAD. Erum completed a HIM thesis on music influences on health compromising behaviors and was awarded a SMART grant for her work. Erum was also awarded a scholarship to attend the 2012 APA convention to present her work. Erum was accepted into the Master’s program in Counseling at UCF and began her studies in the Fall of 2013. Presently, Erum’s co-authored manuscript with Dr. Wright has been accepted for publication and is waiting print.

Jasmin Mokbel graduated in Spring of 2013. Jasmin worked in the lab for 3 semesters and had 3 presentations at the WRUS, SURE, and APS. Jasmin’s HIM thesis focused on the psychological processes associated with swearing and the impact of sociocultural forces on the use of swear words. Jasmin was accepted into the Master’s program in mental health counseling at Nova Southeastern University.

presRobert Thally graduated in Spring of 2013. Robert worked in the lab for 3 semesters and had 3 presentations at the WRUS, SURE, and APS. Robert’s HIM thesis examined identity formation and academic performance of nontraditional college students. Robert was accepted into the Master’s Clinical Psychology program at UCF and began the program in the Fall of 2013.
