Since 2016, the project has trained over 80 students in archaeological survey, excavation, site mapping, paleoethnobotany, zooarchaeology, ceramic and lithic analyses, and archival records research.

Course Credit

UCF graduate and undergraduate students can get 3 credit-hours while participating in the field based course, ANT4824 or ANG5824. This is a full semester, 3-credit-hour course, graded on an A-F scale, that fulfills a restricted elective or high-impact experience in the Anthropology major and in some Anthropology minors. Requirements include participation in field work, detailed field notes, readings, a research presentation for the Student Scholar Symposium at the Showcase of Undergraduate Research, and a research paper. There may be other written assignments, but there will be no exams.

Fieldwork is conducted on CCSFS in rugged conditions. You’ll need sunscreen, bug spray, light clothing, and a willingness to work in dense vegetation and wetlands with a great attitude. Teamwork and participation is essential.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="575" data-src="https://sciences.ucf.edu/anthropology/ccamp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Home-Course-Credit-Image-1024x575.jpg" alt="Two hands hold shells near a wooden sifting tray filled with dirt and debris, with a red glow appearing through gaps in the tray." class="wp-image-93 lazyload" data-srcset="https://sciences.ucf.edu/anthropology/ccamp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Home-Course-Credit-Image-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https://sciences.ucf.edu/anthropology/ccamp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Home-Course-Credit-Image-300x169.jpg 300w, https://sciences.ucf.edu/anthropology/ccamp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Home-Course-Credit-Image-768x431.jpg 768w, https://sciences.ucf.edu/anthropology/ccamp/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/07/Home-Course-Credit-Image.jpg 1280w" data-sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" src="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==" style="--smush-placeholder-width: 1024px;
