We teach and contribute to the diverse and deep science that is Biology and to our community at large, with the goals that our:
- undergraduate students gain a rich appreciation and understanding of living organisms, including their structure, function, ecology, and evolution. We aim for our students to be current and to understand science as a learning process.
- graduate students grow further into creative scholars of Biology. We aim for our students to be experts in their chosen specialty, as evidenced by excellence in their scholarship, so that they go on to be highly successful professional biologists.
- scholarly contributions (often with students) represent excellence in the breadth and depth of Biology. We aim for the high quality of our collective scholarship to be recognized nationally and internationally.
- service to the University community and beyond be highly-valued and recognized as generous and wise.
