Welcome to the Savage Lab<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

We study the ecology and evolution of amphibians, reptiles, and their pathogens. Emerging infectious diseases are a pervasive threat to ectothermic vertebrates, and we strive to understand the what, when, where, how, and especially why of virulence in these host-pathogen systems. To do this, we use functional genomic, population genetic, and other molecular tools to ask questions at multiple levels of biological organization, from host community assemblages and population dynamics to individual susceptibility and immune function to microbial communities and sub-cellular interactions between host and pathogen molecules.<\/p>\n
