She has experience as assistant curator and educator in natural history museums. She started volunteering at the Bug Closet in spring of 2019 and became an employee in January 2020. Her main focus is studying click beetles (Elateridae) but she is involved also in other curatorial duties. She is currently pursuing her PhD in the Urban Ecology Lab at UCF studying ecological processes in human-dominated ecosystems and how insects (mainly beetles) respond to this pressure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1580\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/biology\/bugcloset\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/09\/20200112_221110-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"292\" \/><\/p>\n<div><strong>Jamie Ling<\/strong> is our current outreach coordinator and UCF Biology graduate who was studying conservation and primate behavior. During her last few semesters, her passions shifted from vertebrates to invertebrates. Now she enjoys her time pinning and keying out insects at the Bug Closet. Hemiptera and Hymenoptera are her favorite insect orders, but more specifically, Cicadas (Cicadidae) and Cuckoo wasps (Chrysididae) are her favorite families. McNair Scholar and undergraduate Biology researcher whose favorite insects are solitary bees, especially leafcutter bees (Megachilidae), and wasps. He started volunteering for the Bug Closet in 2023, then became an employee in January 2024. He also works with the Urban Ecology Lab studying insect communities in human-modified environments. Her favorite order is Coleoptera and favorite bug is the Saber-Toothed Longhorn Beetle! Jon continues as the Bug Closet photographer (now a professional) and Lisa is currently working as a full-time mom!!!! But, she can still paint with a mean polyurethane brush. He went on to get his PhD in entomology at the University of Florida and is now an entomologist working for Syngenta, which has taken him to Switzerland!\u00a0 Clay has been a benefactor and advocate of the Bug Closet for many years. He added valuable specimens from his thesis project investigating the effectiveness of different colored pan traps in assessing bee diversity in sandhill communities in Central Florida, and has identified thousands of bees for the Bug Closet.\u00a0 He was also a member of the Sierra Nevada collecting trip team.\u00a0 Phil is currently a USDA officer working on citrus greening control among other things. For fun she likes to collect insects for her personal collection, read fiction novels, and travel as much as possible. She was an excellent outreach coordinator, and is a past president of the Entomological Society of Central Florida. Her favorite order of insect is Hemiptera, but she mainly focused on the parasitic wasp family Braconidae while working here and in the Sharanowski Lab. Vikki currently works as a field technician with Massey pest control.\u00a0 She sings in a band and does kickboxing in her free time. His interest is primarily social insects, especially ants, and he discovered his love of bugs after taking the General Entomology class at UCF, and soon after came to work at the Bug Closet He is now a graduate student and research assistant studying social insects at the UF Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead, FL. In his free time he is an avid collector of insects, both alive and preserved, and enjoys making terrariums for his pet invertebrates to inhabit. She has an affinity for Lepidoptera, especially moths, and is currently a grad student in the UCF Biology Department.
