The Ph.D. and M.S. degrees are offered as traditional research-based programs. Research related travel is defined as travel that facilitates research related activity (e.g. field work) or promotes scientific learning and enrichment\u00a0(participation in a conference, workshop or lab visitation).\u00a0The department will award at total of $8000 in grants, and each proposal may request up to $1000 in reimbursement of travel-related expenses (e.g.,registration, transportation and lodging). These awards are competitive and will be determined by a faculty selection committee.<\/p>\n<h6>Selection and award mechanisms<\/h6>\n<p>Students will submit a one-page summary (12 pt. Arial font, 1 inch page margins) explaining the significance of the travel to the student\u2019s research. A second page will include the student\u2019s name, contact information, a detailed budget and budget justification. Deadlines will be announced each fall and spring semester.\u00a0\u00a0A faculty committee will select the best applications. \u00a0Faculty will not evaluate students for whom they serve as major advisors.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact Laurie Vonkalm (<a href=\"mailto:BioGradChair@ucf.edu\" data-linkindex=\"5\">BioGradChair@ucf.edu<\/a>)<em>\u00a0<\/em>Graduate Program Director, for any additional information.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"jumbotron jumbotron-fluid bg-inverse mb-0\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n<a name=\"bgsa\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading-underline\">Biology Graduate Student Association (BGSA)<\/h2>\n<p>The University of Central Florida Biology Graduate Student Association (BGSA) was established in 1997 to provide opportunities for UCF biology students to participate in extracurricular activities in biology.\u00a0 The activities include regular seminars by visiting professors, UCF faculty and grad student presentation sessions, as well as many social events (canoeing, nature walks, volunteer activities, social gatherings, etc.).\u00a0 BGSA is also an active service organization, participating in both roadside and beach cleanup activities. BGSA members are eligible for the Boyd Lyon Memorial Travel Award, which is awarded every semester.
