His research has been funded by external agencies such as the Department of the Army and the National Institute of Health.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. von Kalm has mentored and advised many graduate students and has received several teaching awards including the Teaching Incentive Award and the COS Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.
