{"id":3669,"date":"2019-07-01T09:24:56","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T13:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sciencescosmaincms.cm.ucf.edu\/chemistry\/person\/vasileios-anagnostopoulos\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T10:57:48","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T15:57:48","slug":"vasileios-anagnostopoulos","status":"publish","type":"person","link":"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/chemistry\/person\/vasileios-anagnostopoulos\/","title":{"rendered":"Vasileios Anagnostopoulos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Radiochemistry Lab (RadLab) at UCF, led by Dr. Vasileios Anagnostopoulos, focuses on <strong>fundamental and applied aspects of Radiochemistry, Nuclear Forensics, as well as Nuclear Fuel Disposal and Environmental Radiochemistry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the group&#8217;s research areas focuses on the <strong>proliferation of radionuclides in the environment<\/strong> due to sorption, complexation with ligands and macromolecules, interface redox phenomena and mineral incorporation, suing kinetic and speciation modelling tools.<\/p>\n<p>Projects dealing with <strong>nuclear fuel disposal<\/strong> focus on actinide compounds and complexes with ligands under conditions relevant to waste tanks, near- and far field repositories environments, as well as ligand assisted dissolution of reduced radionuclide phases, simulating scenarios of waste tank leakage or human intrusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"x-el x-el-span c1-26 c1-27 c1-b c1-9q c1-3h c1-66 c1-9r\">Nuclear forensics <\/strong>is a large part of RadLab portfolio. Our pre-detonation portfolio focuses on the identification of elemental and spectroscopic trace signatures on uranium phases. Our post-detonation projects investigate transition metal signatures on radiological debris, as well as synthesis and characterization (isotopic and morphological) of surrogate nuclear explosion debris using laser and plasma reactor methods.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Anagnostopoulos has led projects funded by the <strong>DOE &#8211; Office of Environmental Management<\/strong>, the <strong>U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission<\/strong>, <strong>Department of Homeland Security<\/strong> and <strong>National Nuclear Security Administration<\/strong>.
