{"id":1516,"date":"2014-08-04T14:32:34","date_gmt":"2014-08-04T18:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/math.cos.ucf.edu\/wp\/?page_id=121"},"modified":"2025-03-24T11:14:31","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T15:14:31","slug":"masters-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/math\/graduate\/masters-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Masters Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Masters Program in Mathematics<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">The UCF Math Master Program has been offered since\u00a0Spring 1971 with \u00a0an Industrial Mathematics track added in Fall 2000 and a Financial Mathematics track added in Fall 2017. \u00a0It has awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/math\/graduate\/alumni\/\">369 master degrees<\/a>. It aims to provide a broad base in mathematics for students interested in mathematical careers. The program supports two distinct tracks: an unnamed track that follows the first two years of the<a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/math\/graduate\/doctoral-program\/\"> doctoral program in mathematics<\/a>, and a track in\u00a0industrial mathematics.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"container\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"row\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\" col-12 col-lg-9\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n<p>The UCF Math Master program requires 30 credit hours minimum beyond the Bachelor\u2019s degree, including the completion of the core courses and one 2-semester sequence.\u00a0At least one-half of the program courses in both options\u00a0must be taken at the 6000 level.<\/p>\n<p>The UCF Math Master program offers two options, thesis and non-thesis. A program of study, including the option, \u00a0must be established by the end of the second semester and\u00a0presented to the graduate program director for departmental approval.<\/p>\n<p>Students with thesis option must have a thesis advisor and pursue research which culminates to a master thesis. \u00a0Students in the program can specialize in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, including Approximation Theory, Applied and Computational Harmonic Analysis, Big Data and Mathematical Statistics, Combinatorics and Graph Theory, Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, Control and Optimization, Differential and Symplectic Geometry, Differential Equations, Fluid and Plasma Dynamics,\u00a0\u00a0Inverse and Ill-posed Problems, Mathematical Biology, Mathematical Finance, Nonlinear Waves and Nonlinear Dynamics, Numerical Analysis, Orthogonal Polynomials, Real and Functional Analysis, \u00a0Probability and Stochastic Analysis, Tomography and Medical Imaging, Topology, and Wave Propagation.<\/p>\n<p>Students with non-thesis option must\u00a0pass the qualifying examinations at or above the MS level. \u00a0Students with non-thesis option are\u00a0encouraged to \u00a0find an academic advisor and work on some research problems.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\" col-12 col-lg-3\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_1898\" style=\"max-width: 150px;\" class=\"figure mx-auto d-block\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img wp-image-1898 size-thumbnail lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/08\/Kanouff_resized-e1492610815128-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Yvette Kanouff\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 150px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 150\/150;\" \/><figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">Yvette Kanouff (Master), Senior Vice President\/General Manager of the Service Provider Business, Cisco<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"row\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\" col-12 col-lg-9\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n<p>The UCF Math Master program with industrial Mathematics track prepares students to pursue careers in industry by providing them with high quality professional training in branches of mathematics valuable to high-technology industries.
