Software used to treat PTSD in military veterans.<\/p><\/div>\n

This weekend, as a part of Family Weekend<\/a>, the UCF College of Sciences is participating in the 2014 College Showcase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 20, from noon \u2013 2 p.m. the College of Sciences will be showcasing their Psychology Department. On display will be their research areas in which high technology is used to help a variety of subjects.<\/p>\n

In past, the showcase has been hosted in each of the respective colleges. Students and families had to walk across campus to visit the various displays in each college. This year, to make it easier on families, the colleges came together to offer a centralized showcase in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union.<\/p>\n

Set up in the ballroom, on the College of Sciences table, will be the UCF RESearch and Treatment On Response to Extreme Stressors <\/a>(RESTORES). This is a research center dedicated to studying all aspects of anxiety, trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Their studies include causation, psychopathology, treatment, resilience and prevention.<\/p>\n

In terms of research on military subjects their display will include a computer-based simulation software used to treat PTSD for military veterans, a computer game to help military service members and their families prepare for deployment.<\/p>\n

They will also feature a virtual school simulator for children exhibiting extreme shyness as well as an iPad app created to help children with social anxiety disorders.<\/p>\n

The Psychology Department from the College of Sciences<\/a> will be featured along with various departments from other colleges around campus.<\/p>\n

The Pegasus Ballroom in the Student Union will be hosting the nine displays for visitors to interact with. Included in the showcase are the following colleges:
\n– College of Health and Public Affairs (COHPA)
\n– College of Education and Human Performance (CEHP)
\n– Interdisciplinary Studies (IS)
\n– Rosen College of Hospitality Management (Rosen)
\n– College of Sciences (COS)
\n– College of Engineering and Computer Science
\n– College of Optics and Photonics
\n– College of Arts and Humanities (CAH)
\n– Undergraduate Studies (US)<\/p>\n
