\"\"<\/a>Science Caf\u00e9 is designed to bring together UCF scientists with the community in a fun and casual environment.\u00a0 Held in the Physical Sciences Building, the series highlights the exciting research currently being conducted in the College of Sciences<\/a>.\u00a0 Each month features a scientist from a different department in the college.<\/p>\n

On September 18, the first talk in the series featured Dr. Talat Rahman <\/a>of the Physics Department<\/a> with \u201cExotic 2D Materials at the Frontiers of Nanoscience\u201d.\u00a0 Over 100 people attended this inaugural event.\u00a0 The attendees included other faculty members, staff, students as well as members of LIFE<\/a> (Learning Institute for Elders).\u00a0 In the coming months we will hear from scientists in the fields of Biology, Optics (CREOL) and Chemistry.<\/p>\n

The Science Cafe is proudly hosted by the Office of Research & Commercialization, Graduate Society of Physics Students, the Physics Department, and Environment Health & Safety.<\/p>\n

On September 18, Dr. Talat Rahman of the Physics department gave her talk on Exotic 2D Materials at the Frontiers of Nanoscience.<\/p>\n

At the end of the month, on October 30th<\/sup>, Science Caf\u00e9 is presenting The Sea Turtle \u201cLost Years\u201d<\/a> with Dr. Kate Mansfield<\/a> from the Biology Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mansfield will be discussing her research involving satellites attached to sea turtles swimming off Florida\u2019s coast. These small satellite-tracking devices have delivered first-of-its-kind data that could help scientists discover what endangered sea turtles do during the \u201clost years.\u201d These years are referring to the time after turtles hatch and head to sea where they remain for years before returning to waters just off the coast.<\/p>\n

November will feature Dr. Peter Delfyett<\/a> from CREOL<\/a>. Delfyett will be speaking about Ultrafast Laser Technology & Applications from the Lab to the Market.<\/p>\n

Science Caf\u00e9 will finish off the semester in December with Dr. Shengli Zou<\/a> from the Chemistry Department<\/a>. He will be speaking about the Big Impact of Tiny Metal Nanoparticles.<\/p>\n

Each event begins at 6:30 p.m., with a chance to network and enjoy wine and appetizers. Join us in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 161<\/a> on Oct. 30, 2014 for the next event in the Science Caf\u00e9 series.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
