Qun “Treen” Huo, Ph.D.<\/a>\u00a0will be recognized for her groundbreaking technology and will present her innovation at\u00a0the 2015 TechConnect World Innovation Conference<\/a> from June 14 \u2013 17 in Washington, D.C.\u00a0\"TechConnect-548x242\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Her discovery, along with two others from UCF, are among the top 20 percent of submittals selected to receive TechConnect Innovation Awards. The annual event is designed to accelerate the commercialization of innovations out of the lab and into industry, and draws some of the brightest researchers, funding agencies, national labs, international research organizations, universities, investors and corporate partners.<\/p>\n

Huo,\u00a0associate professor of chemistry and of\u00a0the NanoScience Technology Center<\/a>, developed\u00a0a method of using gold nanoparticles to screen for prostate and other types of cancer, as well as autoimmune diseases.<\/p>\n

The other two innovations are\u00a0a color-changing tape that can be used at power plants and other facilities to detect hydrogen gas leaks, HySense Technology, a company founded by Nahid Mohajeri,\u00a0Ph.D<\/a>. As well as\u00a0a nanoparticle system whose light-scattering properties can be controlled to display an image with depth perception.\u00a0The research was led by Ayman Abouraddy, Ph.D.<\/a> and Aristide Dogariu, Ph.D.<\/a><\/p>\n

Assistant professor and researcher Jayan Thomas will speak at the conference. He was a finalist for the 2014 World Technology Network Award for his research on cables that can store and transmit energy.<\/p>\n
