Even with\u00a0being one of the first species to have federal regulations protecting them,\u00a0green sea turtle\u00a0populations still declined.<\/p>\n<p>As of recently, green sea turtles numbers have been greatly expanding. Below Cape Canaveral, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fws.gov\/archiecarr\/\">Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge<\/a>, they are having record numbers this year. The University of Central Florida\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/biology.cos.ucf.edu\/marineturtleresearchgroup\/\">Marine Turtle Research Group<\/a> has researchers and students working and monitoring green sea\u00a0turtles nests and as of\u00a0September 17th, the group counted 12,804 nests in the 13 miles refuge beaches.
