Hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.research.ucf.edu\/index.html\">Office of Research &amp; Commercialization<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/pegasus.cc.ucf.edu\/~gsps\/index.html\">Graduate Society of Physics Students<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/physics.cos.ucf.edu\/\">Physics Department <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ehs.ucf.edu\/\">UCF Environmental Health &amp; Safety<\/a>, this series highlights the exciting research currently being conducted in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/\">College of Sciences.<\/a> The Science Caf\u00e9 is a great way to broaden your knowledge of other disciplines and meet people of all levels in the research community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, September\u00a017th,\u00a0the esteemed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.creol.ucf.edu\/People\/Details.aspx?PeopleID=293\">Michael Bass Ph.D.,\u00a0<\/a>Emeritus Professor of Optics, Physics &amp; ECE and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.creol.ucf.edu\/\">CREOL<\/a>, gave a <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2237 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Dr.-Michael-Bass1.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Michael Bass\" width=\"130\" height=\"195\" \/>fascinating lecture, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/cafe\/dr-michael-bass\/\"><em>Magic <\/em><em>Numbers Make the Universe<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>about the many universal constants and their roles in our lives. With 102 people in attendance, the atrium of the Physical Sciences building was a buzz with conversation, food and networking.<\/p>\n<p>With the mission of increasing community involvement within the sciences, this event notably marked the addition of the <a href=\"http:\/\/chemistry.cos.ucf.edu\/uknighted\/\">Uknighted Chemistry Graduate Association<\/a> to the series\u2019 organization team. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see new organizations share in the ownership of the series; that they want to be involved.\u201d says Daniel Franklin, Vice President of the Graduate Student Physics Society.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/JamesWright.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13753 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/JamesWright-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"JamesWright\" width=\"137\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/JamesWright-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/JamesWright-299x374.jpg 299w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/JamesWright.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 137px) 100vw, 137px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On October 15, <a href=\"http:\/\/sociology.cos.ucf.edu\/people\/wright-james\/\">James Wright, Ph.D., <\/a>gave the second talk in the series entitled <em>An Ungrateful Wretch: <\/em><em>Studies of Food Insecurity in the Region, the State and Beyond<\/em>.\u00a0 The talk\u00a0drew over 100 people to listen to Dr. Wright tell the story of how we managed to get from one in twenty who were hungry in America, to one in six.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/lindsayNeuberger.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13756 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/lindsayNeuberger-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"lindsayNeuberger\" width=\"132\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/lindsayNeuberger-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/10\/lindsayNeuberger.jpg 219w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 132px) 100vw, 132px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Join <a href=\"http:\/\/communication.cos.ucf.edu\/person\/lindsay-neuberger\/\">Dr. Lindsay Neuberger, Ph.D.<\/a>,\u00a0and the UCF community, on November 5th to learn about the communication patters and how sharks, space and\u00a0students relate. Her talk <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/cafe\/dr-lindsay-neuberger\/\">What We Say Matters: Sharks, Space, and Student Stress<\/a> <\/em>will provide information, from a social science perspective about\u00a0how communication patterns can provide us with valuable information to affect health, and\u00a0increase quality of life.
