\"DSS<\/a><\/p>\n

The 2nd talk of the\u00a0Distinguished Speaker Series was an emotional and moving one, as Deborah Beidel, Ph.D<\/a>., spoke about Examining Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.<\/em><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, October 21st, Dr. Beidel gave\u00a0a emotion filled presentation on effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She discussed the symptoms of PTSD, how it develops, who is most likely to develop it and the treatments,\u00a0such as\u00a0virtual reality, that are most effective in treating the disorder. She spoke in depth\u00a0about this\u00a0mental health condition\u00a0that affects combat veterans, crime victims, as well as accident or natural disaster survivors.<\/p>\n

Dr. Beidel is a Pegasus professor of psychology and medical evaluation and she is also the director of UCF RESTORES<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Part of the department of psychology, UCF RESTORES, is a clinical research center dedicated to the study of all facets of anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) including etiology, psychopathology, treatment, resilience and prevention. UCF RESTORES is unique because of its development and use of established and emerging technologies to enhance prevention and intervention efforts.<\/p>\n

\"Beidel<\/a>Throughout the night, Dr. Beidel\u00a0touched the audience with\u00a0heartwarming anecdotes and narratives of the success of UCF RESTORES and the amazing work they are doing.<\/p>\n

The center serves as an educational and consultative resource for the Central Florida area and maintains liaisons with other major anxiety disorder centers nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Currently the clinic is engaged in collaborative efforts with researchers in Brazil, Norway and Spain.<\/p>\n

At the event, a gift of $1 million was given\u00a0in support of UCF RESTORES PTSD clinic. This\u00a0incredible donation was one of the many needed to help continue, promote and expand\u00a0this fantastic and innovative program.<\/p>\n
