As a satellite archeologist, she is known for discovering,\u00a0analyzing and\u00a0preserving archaeological sites by using satellite and infrared\u00a0imagery.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Parcak was the 1st speaker of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/dss\/\">2015-2016 COS Distinguished Speaker Series,<\/a> with her presentation \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/dss\/dr-sarah-parcak\/\">A <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cos.ucf.edu\/dss\/dr-sarah-parcak\/\">Digital Revolution: Archeology from Space<\/a>\u201d. She\u00a0shared how new satellite technologies are helping us rewrite ancient history,\u00a0while\u00a0also\u00a0describing how archeologists are using satellites to stop looting in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The TED\u00a0prize is awarded once a year to an individual with an innovative idea and vision hoping to generate global change. This person is\u00a0granted $1 million to launch and fund their project. Dr. Parcak was interviewed and featured in an article on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kristinakillgrove\/2015\/11\/09\/archaeologist-sarah-parcak-wins-1-million-ted-prize-will-work-to-find-and-preserve-ancient-sites\/\">Forbes.com<\/a>, that\u00a0discussed her TED prize and admirable work as an archeologist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12712 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"Chase\" width=\"222\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1-768x534.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1-1024x711.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1-299x208.jpg 299w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/06\/Chase1.jpg 1484w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/anthropology.cos.ucf.edu\/people\/chase-arlen-f\/\">Arlen Chase, Ph.D.<\/a>, associate dean of the College of Sciences\u00a0and\u00a0Pegasus professor of archeology, was quoted in this article.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Chase explained that Parcak\u2019s work in remote sensing \u201chas always been at the forefront of the field of archaeology. Her satellite research goes beyond simply looking at imagery; she also uses spectral and chemical signatures to aid in her interpretations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His primary focus of research is on the ancient Maya of Central America.
