On November 19th, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ucf.collegiatelink.net\/organization\/forensicscienceassociation\">UCF Forensic Science Association <\/a>(FSA) teamed up with\u00a0Matanzas High School to help students and hosted their very first &#8220;Murder Mystery at Matanzas&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Murder Mystery at Mantanzas&#8221; was designed as an interactive first look at the\u00a0disciplines within the forensic science field, with an emphasis on crime scene analysis. The event\u00a0featured\u00a0an \u201cactive\u201d crime scene, that the students were allowed to\u00a0investigate and collect evidence from\u00a0to discover\u00a0the identity of the\u00a0mystery killer.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14353\" style=\"width: 215px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14353\" class=\"wp-image-14353\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1-277x300.jpg\" alt=\"Murder at Matanzas_1\" width=\"205\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1-277x300.jpg 277w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1-768x832.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1-945x1024.jpg 945w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1-299x324.jpg 299w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/11\/Murder-at-Matanzas_1.jpg 1772w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14353\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Anastasia Pagello and the Palm Coast Observer<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The lab stations\u00a0had activities such as,\u00a0fingerprinting, document analysis, evidence collection, bloodstain pattern analysis, and more.\u00a0FSA students were stationed at each lab to work one-on-one with the students.<\/p>\n<p>After the students collected their samples from the crime scene, they\u00a0were given the opportunity to examine those samples\u00a0under stereo microscopes and examine the blood samples with the Kastle-Meyer Test.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Vice President of FSA, Jesus Pardo, organized the event with the help of his volunteering committee chair Alexis Weber, and President Lauren Gandy.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren\u00a0would like to thank <a href=\"http:\/\/chemistry.cos.ucf.edu\/people\/miller-mattheu\/\">Mattheu Miller, Ph.D.<\/a>, for the\u00a0help and support\u00a0he provided with the set up and implementation of the\u00a0event.\u00a0&#8220;Mr. Mattheu Miller,\u00a0our advisor, attended the event with us, wearing his old toxicology lab coat, and not only helped transport a large portion of the materials, but also was great at communicating\u00a0with the Mantanza\u00a0teachers as to what was going on, [as one educational professional to another].<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ncfs.ucf.edu\/?people=hanson-erin\">Erin Hanson, Ph.D.<\/a>, professor of biochemistry at UCF, also contributed materials and allowed FSA the use of her lab to evaluate the Kastyle-Meyer blood presumptive test reagents prior to the event.
