NSC alumna Tiffany Anthony had not been able to attend the 2015 ceremony. Once received at WJXT, the prized Emmy was forwarded to her.<\/p><\/div>\n

It was a simple statement on the Facebook page of Tiffany Anthony,<\/strong> ’07, but it said so much: She could now officially call\u00a0herself an Emmy Award-winning producer. Anthony was one of the winners at the 2015\u00a0Suncoast Chapter ceremony of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences<\/a> Regional Emmy Awards, held Dec. 6.<\/p>\n

Anthony, a 2007\u00a0R-TV graduate, shares the\u00a0Emmy with her\u00a0WJXT-TV, Jacksonville team members<\/a>: Executive Producers Josh Beauchamp and Stacey Readout, Producer Robert Brown and anchor Bruce Hamilton.\u00a0Her\u00a0Spot News Emmy was for \u201cGunman on FSU Campus,\u201d the station\u2019s\u00a0reporting of the shooter incident that occurred in November 2014.<\/p>\n

The Suncoast ceremony recognized other NSC\u00a0alumni as Emmy nominees:\u00a0Russell Colbourn, Katie Johnson<\/strong> and Valeza Gil<\/strong>. Colbourn\u00a0was nominated for a Spot News award\u00a0for\u00a0\u201cAction News Storm Coverage\u201d with the\u00a0team at\u00a0WJAX\/WFOX-TV. Johnson\u2019s nomination was for a historical piece,\u00a0\u201c90 Year Old Veteran Remembers Where He Was on V.E. Day,\u201d shared\u00a0with Ian Dorety at WPTV. And,\u00a0Gil\u2019s nomination recognized an on-camera live report, \u201cValezka Gil \u2013 En Vivos,\u201d produced by WTMO-TV Telemundo.<\/p>\n

Congratulations also go to \u00a0WUCF-TV<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Producer Buddy Pittman<\/strong> for his two\u00a0regional Emmy award nominations<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 one\u00a0for\u00a0\u201cMike Nuriel Secondhand Choppers\u201d in the Arts\/Entertainment segment, and the second, for\u00a0\u201cTangelo Park\/Harris Rosen\u201d in the Education\/Schools category.<\/p>\n

Of her team\u2019s Emmy-win, Anthony said, \u201cAs a station, you work hard to make sure coverage informs viewers with the most updated, fresh and relevant information.\u201d On the day of the FSU incident, coverage was a team effort. Reporters and anchors were in touch\u00a0every 15-20 minutes, they turned to social media\u00a0for information, and the team used the station\u2019s top resources, she\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

Anthony\u2019s\u00a0career has\u00a0advanced since producing at the Jacksonville station. She\u2019s\u00a0now a producer at CBS affiliate News 6 WKMG in Orlando. She\u00a0said her studies at Nicholson\u00a0prepared her well, and remembers being influenced by\u00a0George Bagley<\/strong><\/a> and Dr. Tim Brown<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0associate professors of R-TV. She loved working as a\u00a0producer on\u00a0Knightly News<\/a>, saying\u00a0the experience\u00a0was a\u00a0main reason she decided\u00a0on producing as a career.<\/p>\n

She\u00a0noted her profession requires\u00a0a certain drive.\u00a0She even jokingly\u00a0said\u00a0it takes\u00a0a personality \u201cthat likes to boss people around.\u201d Producers deal\u00a0not just with routine stories, but tragic ones, she pointed out. \u201cThat\u2019s a very tough job,\u201d she said. Anthony offered\u00a0some\u00a0top advice: \u201cBe thick-skinned. Be informed. Be very understanding of human nature. And, even if you think you are an optimist, remember that it is hard to remain optimistic unless you keep the right focus,\u201d she\u00a0said. \u201cPeople rely on you to inform them of the facts. That\u2019s a very positive purpose to have, and to maintain.\u201d<\/p>\n
