In return, the council seeks to cultivate and refine the skills and abilities of these top students. PLC members are expected to establish a tradition of leadership for students at UCF.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-16254 \" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/04\/Kimberly-Bates-Headshot-PLC-RESIZED-e1459963333680-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/04\/Kimberly-Bates-Headshot-PLC-RESIZED-e1459963333680-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/04\/Kimberly-Bates-Headshot-PLC-RESIZED-e1459963333680-144x144.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 135px) 100vw, 135px\" \/>Kimberly Batres: <\/strong><em>Junior<\/em><strong>, <\/strong><em>Anthropology and Latin American Studies\/History Minors\u00a0&#8211; <\/em>Kimberly hopes to acquire\u00a0her M.A.\/Ph.D in archaeology in order to do field work in Latin America.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>&#8220;Applying to PLC, I was both excited and nervous&#8230; I demonstrated the person I was to the selection committee and it seemed to have paid off. There is no model PLC member, everyone is\u00a0unique and brings something different by being yourself you are demonstrating what you can bring to the table.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16311 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/04\/Enrique-Blanco-PLC-3.jpg\" alt=\"Enrique Blanco - PLC 3\" width=\"130\" height=\"117\" \/>Enrique Blanco: <\/strong><em>Senior, <\/em><em>Chemistry <\/em>(<em>Biochemistry Track<\/em>) &#8211;\u00a0Enrique has\u00a0worked with Karin Chumbimuni-Torres, Ph.D.,\u00a0in her Analytical Chemistry lab focusing\u00a0on different Ion-Selective Electrodes, as well as working with Dmitry Kolpashchikov&#8217;s, Ph.D., conducting research in Nucleic Acid-Based Logic Gates through the Honors in the Major Program.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m beyond excited and honored to have been selected to serve on UCF&#8217;s President&#8217;s Leadership Council. I encourage all students, to pursue their goals, no matter how far fetched or unfitting they may seem, through strong will and\u00a0perseverance, anything can be achieved.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15978 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/03\/Friant_Headshot.jpg\" alt=\"Friant_Headshot\" width=\"113\" height=\"142\" \/>Rachel Friant: <\/strong>J<em>unior<\/em>, <em>Political Science\u00a0(Pre-Law)\/English Literature Minor- <\/em>Rachel is currently researching Education Policy in Florida for her Honors in the Major Thesis and plans\u00a0to attend law school after UCF and pursue a career in\u00a0juvenile justice or family law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>&#8220;My advice to other students is to maintain a healthy balance in your life. With the tremendous pressure to maintain a perfect GPA, be involved on campus, and get work experience, you can not forget the things that you enjoy. Give your best at everything including making yourself happy.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16258 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/04\/Lauren-Gandy-PLC-RESIZED.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"166\" \/><strong>Lauren Gandy: <\/strong><em>Senior, Forensic Science <\/em>(<em>Biochemistry Track)\/French and Biomedical Minors\u00a0&#8211; <\/em>Lauren focuses on forensics research with Candice Bridge, Ph.D.,\u00a0at the\u00a0National Center for Forensic Science and is working on a\u00a0French undergraduate thesis through the Honors in the Major program under Anne-Charlotte Trinquet, Ph.D.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>&#8220;Receiving the PLC acceptance notification was such a great moment, and it reminded me of how far I had come. I would have never applied to something like PLC when I was first\u00a0accepted to UCF&#8230;.it truly goes to show that UCF changes people by giving them opportunities,\u00a0and\u00a0if you\u00a0take advantage of opportunities and\u00a0maximize your potential, you can truly succeed.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-16117\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/03\/Tai-lyn-PLC.jpg\" alt=\"Tai-lyn - PLC\" width=\"116\" height=\"116\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tai-Lyn Parboosingh: <\/strong><em>Junior, Political Science and Public Administration &#8211; <\/em>Tai-Lyn\u00a0currently serves on the Legislative branch of the Student Government Association as a College of Sciences Senator.
