\"NCFS-Speaker-Series_Talk-3_Digital<\/a>Join us for the final speaker in The National Center for Forensic Science (NCFS) Speaker Series on Science, Statistics and the Law. This speaker series\u00a0brings together attorneys, forensic scientists and academics to discuss the future of forensic science in America.<\/p>\n

Simon A. Cole, Ph.D., <\/a>will be speaking\u00a0on the topic of, What Does It Mean for Forensic Evidence to Be \u201cStatistical\u201d? A Historical Perspective.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

There will be two events held; one on Thursday April 14, 2016 at 12:00 PM, <\/strong>at the UCF Executive Development Center<\/a><\/strong> downtown and another one on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 6:00 PM, <\/strong>at the National Center for Forensic Science<\/strong> <\/a>on Research Parkway. Lunch will be served\u00a0at the\u00a012:00pm talk on Thursday and refreshments will be served at the 6:00pm talk.<\/p>\n

Dr. Cole is a\u00a0Professor of Criminology, Law and Society and Director of the Newkirk Center for Science & Society at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Cole is a renowned author and has published more than 20 scholarly articles and book chapters about the scientific validity of fingerprint evidence and its use in the courts.<\/p>\n

He is a member of the Human Factors Subcommittee of the National Commission on Forensic Science<\/a> and the Forensic Culture Task Force for the National Institute of Standards and Technology <\/a>(NIST), and a Co-Investigator in the NIST Center for Excellence, the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence<\/a>. He is also Co-Editor of the journal Theoretical Criminology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In this first year of the NCFS Speaker Series our goal is to educate our audience on evidentiary value and the use of science and statistics in criminal litigation. This series is sponsored by Seaside National Bank & Trust.<\/p>\n
