He immediately pulled over and grabbed his smartphone. But instead of taking a selfie, the <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/communication.cos.ucf.edu\/program\/journalism\/\" target=\"_blank\">journalism student<\/a> began reporting. By the time a news helicopter flew overhead, the bus\u2019s occupants were safely evacuated, the fire was extinguished and Gutierrez was wrapping up his first <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/communication.cos.ucf.edu\/new-technology-to-enhance-mobile-journalism-classes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mobile Journalism<\/a> assignment.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/communication.cos.ucf.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">UCF Nicholson School of Communication<\/a> class teaches students to write news stories and capture accompanying video and images with mobile devices, then edit and file the content electronically from the field. It\u2019s skills training designed to keep pace with evolving technology fueling the 24-hour news cycle.
