Hudson won the FPSA 2016 Best Graduate Paper Award for her paper titled, \u201cLegislative Gridlock, Partisanship, and Trust in Government.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/politicalscience.cos.ucf.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">UCF Political Science Department <\/a>is proud to announce that Jennifer L. Hudson, a graduate student in the Political Science master\u2019s program, won the FPSA 2016 Best Graduate Paper Award for her paper titled, \u201cLegislative Gridlock, Partisanship, and Trust in Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fpsanet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Political Science Association <\/a>(FPSA) is a professional association of scholars and students from public and private institutions in the state of Florida who serve to encourage political science research and education. The FPSA also publishes the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fpsanet.org\/florida-political-chronicle.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Florida Political Chronicle<\/em><\/a>, an academic journal.<\/p>\n<p>In her paper, Hudson examines the varying effects of legislative gridlock in the US on trust in government and how this varies by partisanship. Her results conclude that legislative gridlock has a significant, negative effect on trust in government, and that by understanding this, researchers will be able to enhance their comprehension of shifts in partisan identification and political participation. Hudson thanks her UCF professors and peers for their invaluable feedback and encouragement on this accomplishment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17582\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17582\" class=\"wp-image-17582 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/06\/DannyKrikorianheadshot-e1465565564164.jpg\" alt=\"DannyKrikorianheadshot\" width=\"200\" height=\"234\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17582\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Danny Krikorian is one of the runner-ups selected to be published in the Florida Political Chronicle for his paper titled, &#8220;Political Stability of Kazakhstan: Gift &amp; Curse.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cI am very grateful for the chance to present at the 2016 FPSA Annual Meeting,\u201d<\/em> said Hudson. <em>\u201cThis experience provided me the opportunity to not only improve my presentation and research skills, but also to benefit and learn from both students and scholars.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17615\" style=\"width: 199px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17615\" class=\"wp-image-17615 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2016\/06\/ChrisFaulkner-e1465910219845.jpg\" alt=\"ChrisFaulkner\" width=\"189\" height=\"244\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17615\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chris Faulkner is one of the runner-ups selected to be published in the Florida Political Chronicle for his paper titled, &#8220;Buying Peace: the Duration of Peace and Private Military &amp; Security Companies.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two other UCF Political Science graduate students, Danny Krikorian and Chris Faulkner, were selected as runners-up for this prestigious award. Danny Krikorian, also a student in the UCF Political Science master\u2019s program, presented his research on \u201cPolitical Stability of Kazakhstan: Gift and Curse.\u201d Chris Faulkner, who is a doctoral student in the department\u2019s Security Studies Ph.D. program, presented his research on \u201cBuying Peace: the Duration of Peace and Private Military and Security Companies.\u201d All three students are offered the opportunity to publish their papers in the Winter 2016- Spring 2017 edition of the <em>Florida Political Chronicle<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u201cThe Political Science Department is very proud of the outstanding accomplishments of our graduate students,\u201d<\/em> said Political Science Department Chair and Pegasus Professor Kerstin Hamann, Ph.D. \u201c<em>It is truly remarkable that our master\u2019s and doctoral students have been selected for these awards, and it is a testament to the high quality of our graduate students.
