Students from Pegasus Professor Linda Walters\u2019, Ph.D., Principles of Marine Biology course presented their work at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The class of 65 students and 11 projects received 5 showcase awards, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Engaging the Arts Recognition Award: Aquaphonics (underwater noise)<\/li>\n<li>STEM Recognition Award: Guardians of the Coral Reef<\/li>\n<li>Undergraduate Innovative Project: Unwelcomed Guests (Marine Invasive Species)<\/li>\n<li>Youth Development Scholarship: Aquaculture AFISHianados<\/li>\n<li>College of Sciences Scholarship: Bye-Bye By-Catch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The showcase provided students an opportunity to display and present their community projects to academic and public audiences. Sharing their observations,<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21326 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2017\/04\/DSC_0887-299x199.jpg 299w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/>\u00a0creating connections and collaborating for future projects are some of the reasons students partake in the annual event.<\/p>\n<p>To participate in the showcase students must be in the Service-Learning certification program. The program is designed for students in any discipline who seek to engage in a reflective analysis of community service as it relates to academic course work.
