A woman described as the \u201cglue that holds the Sociology Department together\u201d recently earned UCF\u2019s Employee of the Month award for July.<\/p>\n

Shannon Cajigas has spent five years in Sociology as an administrative assistant, primarily splitting her time between human resources duties and facilitating travel for staff and faculty. It\u2019s the former that she likes best because it puts her in regular contact with staff, faculty and students.<\/p>\n

\u201cI miss that connection with people,\u201d Cajigas said, looking back on her pre-pandemic job. \u201cYou don\u2019t nearly get that as well talking to people on the phone.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same human connection shrinks the vast campus into a tightknit community for Cajigas. When you\u2019re a Knight, you have the support of a lot of people backing you up, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe college, the departments, the staff, the faculty, the students \u2014 everyone is working together,\u201d Cajigas said.<\/p>\n

Cajigas said she was \u201csurprised and honored\u201d by the recognition. Her nomination for the award describes her as \u201calways willing and eager to assist \u2026 with any task.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, as a department, are so grateful for Mrs. Cajigas and the years she has committed to UCF and the (Department of Sociology). She truly deserves to be recognized for this award and be reminded how valued she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sociology Department Chair Libby Mustaine, Ph.D.<\/a>, added: \u201cWe are so proud of our awesome Shannon and are thrilled that she is being recognized by the university! \u00a0Shannon is indispensable in the Department of Sociology to our students, other staff, and faculty alike. \u00a0She is efficient, effective and is always happy to lend an empathetic ear.
