Senator\u00a0 Bob Graham\u00a0will be speaking\u00a0to UCF students, staff, faculty and guests\u00a0on February 14, 2013 as part of the\u00a0Distinguished Speakers Series, which is hosted by the College of Sciences and the UCF Political Science Department.<\/a>\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The event, “Citizenship and Global and National Security in the 21st Century”, will start at 3 p.m.\u00a0and is free and open to the public. The event will be held in the\u00a0Morgridge International Reading Center<\/a> and there will be a reception following the presentation.<\/p>\n

Senator\u00a0 Bob Graham<\/a>\u00a0is the former two\u2013term governor of Florida and served for 18 years in the United States Senate. This is combined with 12 years in the Florida legislature for a total of 38 years of public service. Bob Graham retired from public service in January 2005, following his Presidential campaign in 2004.<\/p>\n

Bob Graham is recognized for his leadership on issues ranging from education, economic development, healthcare, environmental preservation and his service on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence \u2014 including eighteen months as chairman in 2001\u20132002.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Senator Graham was appointed by the President and served as Co-Chair of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling.\u00a0 This followed his service as a Commissioner on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, as Chairman of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism co-authoring its final report \u201cWorld at Risk.\u201d He served as a member of the CIA External Advisory Board from 2010-2012.<\/p>\n

Currently he is chairman of the WMD Center, a not for profit research organization which continues the work of the Commission, co-chair of Oil Spill Commission Action project, is a member of\u00a0the board of directors of several companies, and is the chair of the Board of Overseers of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida.<\/p>\n

Senator Graham is also the author of several books including \u201cIntelligence Matters,\u201d 9\/11 and the run up to the Iraq War from the perspective of the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, \u201cAmerica: The Owner\u2019s Manual,\u201d which teaches the skills of civic participation, and \u201cKeys to the Kingdom,\u201d a novel of suspense which draws upon his background in government and intelligence.<\/p>\n
