Entertainment Merchants Association,&#8221; published in the <i>American Psychologist<\/i> is written by Dr. Chris Ferguson, a graduate of the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at UCF.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2013\/03\/violent-video-game-image-e1362514879935.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6601\" alt=\"violent video game image\" src=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2013\/03\/violent-video-game-image-e1362514879935.jpg\" width=\"235\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>From the abstract:<\/em>\u00a0In June 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that video\u00a0games enjoy full free speech protections and that the regulation of violent game sales to minors is unconstitutional.\u00a0The Supreme Court also referred to psychological research\u00a0on violent video games as &#8220;unpersuasive&#8221; and noted that\u00a0such research contains many methodological \ufb02aws. Recent\u00a0reviews in many scholarly journals have come to similar\u00a0conclusions, although much debate continues. Given past\u00a0statements by the American Psychological Association\u00a0linking video game and media violence with aggression,\u00a0the Supreme Court ruling, particularly its critique of the\u00a0science, is likely to be shocking and disappointing to some\u00a0psychologists.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full paper <a href=\"http:\/\/psychology.cos.ucf.edu\/main\/files\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Ferguson-2013.pdf\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ferguson was mentored by Dr. Charles Negy and he represents UCF extremely well with over 80 publications and two books.
