APA filed two &#8220;friend of the court&#8221; briefs presenting empirical evidence in support of same-sex marriage, arguing that denying recognition to legally married same-sex couples stigmatizes them. The briefs were filed in the cases of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/about\/offices\/ogc\/amicus\/hollingsworth-perry.aspx\" target=\"\"><em>Hollingsworth v. Perry<\/em><\/a>, which challenges California&#8217;s Proposition 8, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/about\/offices\/ogc\/amicus\/us-windsor.aspx\" target=\"\"><em>U.S. v. Windsor<\/em><\/a>, which challenges the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
