Where\u2019s Marla Weech? That long-running mystery was solved Tuesday, when the longtime Orlando anchor joined Central Florida News 13. Her on-air debut should come in late April.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be so excited to be back on Central Florida airwaves,\u201d said Weech, who will be a reporter and a weekend anchor. \u201cI have found that no matter whether someone has a favorite ABC, CBS or NBC affiliate, they love News 13. It fits into people\u2019s lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s another remarkable comeback for Weech, who is in her 50s. She was an Orlando institution at ABC affiliate WFTV-Channel 9 and later anchored at CBS affiliate WKMG-Channel 6.<\/p>\n

Robin Smythe, general manager of Central Florida News 13, said it was a \u201ccoup\u201d to land someone with Weech\u2019s experience. \u201cWe have a chance to have somebody join our team who has a high profile in the market,\u201d Smythe said.<\/p>\n

Weech, a native Floridian and a graduate of the University of Central Florida, has logged many years in Orlando TV. She spent nearly 20 years at WFTV, where she and Bob Opsahl formed a popular team. She was demoted in 2003 after ratings declined, and she left WFTV in 2005.<\/p>\n

A year later, Weech joined WKMG. She worked there for more than two years, but lost her job in the recession. She has been free-lancing since then.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just really love Central Florida,\u201d Weech said. \u201cI am so excited about being able to cover the news in a way no one else in town covers it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smythe praised Weech\u2019s\u00a0knowledge of the community and her enthusiasm for the business. \u201cYou can\u2019t buy that kind of equity,\u201d Smythe said. \u201cShe is certainly up for this role.\u201d<\/p>\n
