{"id":8562,"date":"2013-10-31T09:11:59","date_gmt":"2013-10-31T13:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.cos.ucf.edu\/?p=8562"},"modified":"2013-10-31T09:11:59","modified_gmt":"2013-10-31T13:11:59","slug":"special-colloquium-by-cos-professional-achievement-award-honoree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/news\/special-colloquium-by-cos-professional-achievement-award-honoree\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Colloquium by COS Professional Achievement Award Honoree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UCF alumnus and\u00a0College of Sciences 2013 Professional Achievement Award Recipient, Dr. Philip Inderwiesen, will be\u00a0discussing the different applications of a Physics degree.\u00a0 The\u00a0colloquium will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Physical Sciences Building, room 161.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0discussion will be centered on Dr. Inderwiesen&#8217;s personal experiences and will help students learn about the practical applications of a Physics degree.\u00a0 Inderwiesen has a broad range of experiences in the field of physics through his employment with Texaco and his current company, Chevron.\u00a0 Dr. Inderwiesen\u00a0has been with the Chevron Exploration Technology Company since 2001 and uses seismology applied to petroleum exploration, development and production problems.<\/p>\n<p>Inderwiesen\u00a0received a BS in Physics from UCF\u00a0in 1974.\u00a0 He received his MA in Geology (Geophysics) from Indiana University and his PhD in Applied Geophysics from the University of Houston.\u00a0 He has received awards for his applications of Seismic Technology &amp; Geostatistics.\u00a0 He has authored many publications on Offshore Technology, seismology and related fields.\u00a0 Civically, he is the primary author of the Fort Bend county Outdoor Lighting Ordinance, for the purpose of preserving the night sky from light pollution and has worked on many such committees to assist his local community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Special Colloquium by Dr. Philip Inderwiesen<br \/>\n<em>2013 COS Professional Achievement Award Recipient<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>&#8220;Industrial Applications for a Physics Degree&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Tuesday, November 5, 2013 2:00 PM<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Physical Sciences Building (PS) Room 161<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UCF alumnus and\u00a0College of Sciences 2013 Professional Achievement Award Recipient, Dr. Philip Inderwiesen, will be\u00a0discussing the different applications of a Physics degree.\u00a0 The\u00a0colloquium will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Physical Sciences Building, room 161.
