If it isn&#8217;t for what teachers are excluding from their curriculums, then it&#8217;s\u00a0how over-crowded the\u00a0classrooms are or the grades students and their schools are getting. Public education is becoming synonymous with failure or somehow &#8216;less than something else.&#8217; Though many acknowledge the faults of public education, few people are able to provide reasonable solutions to the problems.\u00a0Even less are willing to analyze what\u00a0factors are causing difficulties in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Michal Marder will\u00a0speak on\u00a0&#8216;Failure and Public Education&#8217; this Wednesday, January 8th in the Physical Sciences building room 161 at 4 pm.\u00a0In his talk Dr. Marder\u00a0will discuss his ideas on why\u00a0public education is\u00a0failing and how\u00a0mistaken theories are putting it at risk. Listeners can expect to gain a greater understanding of the current state of public education,\u00a0a few of its&#8217;\u00a0faults and how to move forward to create a better system for students and teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Marder is\u00a0executive director of the UTeach Natural Sciences Program, a university program\u00a0preparing undergraduates (and graduates)\u00a0in teaching secondary math and sciences, at the University of Texas at Austin. He helps introduce inquiry-based or problem-solving\u00a0techniques into undergraduate teaching.
