Brian Smith is the Director, Office of Acquisition Management and Head of the Contracting Activity for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). NNSA is a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science. Mr. Smith oversees NNSA’s largest Management and Operating (M&O) contracts at Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories, as well as NNSA’s Production M&O contracts at Kansas City, Pantex, Y-12, and Nevada. Mr. Smith also leads acquisition support for NNSA’s Nuclear Nonproliferation, Defense Programs, and Counter Intelligence program offices.

Mr. Smith previously served as NNSA’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Management, in which he oversaw the Offices of Human Resources, Business Services, Employee Empowerment, Learning and Career Management, and International Operations, providing top notch human capital programs to 2,500 federal personnel around the world.

Mr. Smith also held executive leadership roles in human capital and financial management with Naval Reactors, a joint Department of Energy / Department of the Navy program responsible for all aspects of naval nuclear propulsion. During his tenure, Mr. Smith participated in multiple interagency reviews to scope and execute the modernization of the nation’s nuclear deterrent.

A member of the Senior Executive Service, Mr. Smith served on active duty as a Navy Supply Corps officer and maintains his uniformed service as a drilling Navy reservist. He holds a B.A. from the University of Central Florida, an M.S. from the George Washington University, and certifications in Human Resources and Project Management.
