There were lots of exciting discoveries in the cosmological realm to distract us from our more terrestrial concerns, and boy did we need them! The total solar eclipse was transcendent, gravitational waves came into their own as a new form of astronomy, and if things continue to go downhill on planet Earth, astronomers are finding more promising candidates for new places to live.
