{"id":5619,"date":"2016-10-10T11:50:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-10T15:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/physics.cos.ucf.edu\/?page_id=5619"},"modified":"2017-04-06T09:52:42","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T13:52:42","slug":"genda-gu-april-14-2017","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/physics\/colloquia\/genda-gu-april-14-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Genda Gu &#8211; April 14, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center\">Ideal topological crystalline insulators and topological superconductors in the Pb-Sn-In-Te<\/h1>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center\">Genda Gu, PhD<br \/>\nCondensed Matter Physics &amp; Materials Science Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY 11973<br \/>\nApril 14, 2017 &#8211; PSB 160\/161, 1:30-2:30pm<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Abstract:<\/strong>\u00a0The discovery of 3D topological insulator materials and topological superconductor open up a new research field in the condensed matter physics.\u00a0 In order to search for the ideal topological insulator, topological crystalline insulator and topological superconductor, we have grown a large number of the single crystals of\u00a0 Pb-system ( Pb-Sn-In-Te) topological crystalline insulator and their topological superconductor.\u00a0 We have measured the physical properties on these single crystals by various techniques. We have studied the effect of crystal growth condition, impurity and composition on the bulk electrical conductivity of these single crystals. We try to find out which composition and crystal growth condition is the best for the ideal topological insulator,\u00a0 topological crystalline insulator and topological superconductor.\u00a0 We have got the bulk topological superconductor with T<sub>c<\/sub>=5K.<\/p>\n<p><em>Genda <\/em>Gu has<em> completed his <\/em>Ph.D.<em> in 1989 from Harbin Institute of Technology, China. He is the Senior Physicist <\/em>in<em> Brookhaven National Laboratory and the adjunct professor at Stony Brook University. his research interest includes the discovery and development of new superconducting and strongly correlated electrons materials, with <\/em>particular<em> focus on the growth of <\/em>high quality<em> single crystals and the investigation of the physical properties of those materials.
