He worked as a\u00a0Research Scientist in the Institute of Cell Biology, Academy of Sciences USSR,\u00a0Leningrad, for fifteen years (1977-1992). He joined\u00a0the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics, University of Virginia Medical School, Charlottesville, VA, as a\u00a0Research Associate in 1992 and was promoted to\u00a0Assistant Professor of Research in 1995. In 1999, Dr. Tatulian moved to the University of\u00a0Kansas, Lawrence, KS, as Associate Professor of Research in Molecular Biosciences. In 2001 he moved to UCF as Associate Professor at the Biomolecular Sciences Center.
