For these workers, the anxiety of seeking employment\u2014sometimes outside of their primary industry of expertise\u2014is all too real. In this frustration and confusion, it can be easy to lose sight of the trajectory of our lives, leaving us feeling like we are in a state of limbo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last week in the final workshop of our<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/hospitality.ucf.edu\/research-recovery-and-reskill\/#default-white-section:~:text=PEOPLE%20WORKING%20OR%20NOT%20WORKING%20IN%20ISOLATION%3A%20COPING%20TOOLS%20FOR%20THE%20HOSPITALITY%20INDUSTRY%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fall 2020 series on isolation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Dr. Connie Wanberg, Professor and Industrial Relations Faculty Excellence Chair at the University of Minnesota, shared her insight on the importance of addressing this feeling of limbo. Her research on unemployment and job-seeking behaviors has demonstrated that people are more successful in their job search when they do not neglect the other areas of their lives. These areas include health, family, finances, hobbies, relationships, and social life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The good news is that we can take measures to re-align ourselves. For many of us, our jobs and career are culprits. However, the life inspiration model calls for us to make specific goals in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> areas of our lives, in order to achieve the sense of balance that we\u2019re missing. Maybe you\u2019ve noticed you haven\u2019t been reaching out to your friends as much as you\u2019d like, or maybe it\u2019s been more difficult to eat well and exercise for your health. By taking a moment to reflect on who and what is important to you, you\u2019re taking the first step towards getting back in sync with your life purpose\u2014whatever that might be for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout our<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/hospitality.ucf.edu\/research-recovery-and-reskill\/#default-white-section:~:text=PEOPLE%20WORKING%20OR%20NOT%20WORKING%20IN%20ISOLATION%3A%20COPING%20TOOLS%20FOR%20THE%20HOSPITALITY%20INDUSTRY%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">month-long Fall 2020 workshop series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, we\u2019ve had the pleasure of inviting experts from various disciplines to learn more about how employees in the people-oriented profession of hospitality can adjust to the isolation of living and working during COVID-19.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/sciences.ucf.edu\/psychology\/sunshine\/trt-fall-2020-workshop-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Video recordings of all of the workshops<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are available for anyone to watch and share.
