The Master of Arts degree program in clinical psychology is designed to provide psychological training and preparation for students desiring to deliver clinical services through community agencies. After completing the program and a two-year postgraduate internship, graduates are eligible to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors and practice independently in the State of Florida following licensure.<\/p>\n

Applied Pre-Licensure\/Non-Thesis Track:<\/h5>\n

This track is designed for students desiring to deliver clinical services in a variety of settings including community agencies and private practice. After completing the program and two years of postgraduate supervised clinical experience, graduates are eligible to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors in the state of Florida. The Pre-Licensure Track of the M.A. in Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Central Florida is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC)<\/a> for the period of September, 2023 through September, 2031.<\/p>\n

Research\/Thesis Track:<\/h5>\n

This track emphasizes clinical research and is designed for students who wish to focus on clinical research and\/or are interested in pursuing entry into a doctoral program following the completion of their Master\u2019s degree. Students who complete this option are not eligible to become Licensed Mental Health Counselors upon graduation. The Thesis Track is not eligible for accreditation by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC)<\/a> because it does not meet educational eligibility requirements for Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensure.<\/p>\n

Program Admissions<\/h2>\n

The UCF Psychology Department coordinates the admission process with the UCF Graduate Studies office. In order to enroll in graduate classes, students must have obtained a baccalaureate or higher degree in Psychology or a related area, prior to the start of the term for which the student is admitted, from a regionally accredited institution or from a recognized foreign institution. A minimum of 15 semester hours of undergraduate psychology courses are required as a prerequisite for applicants with a degree in a field other than psychology. Completion of courses in abnormal psychology (psychopathology) and research methods and\/or statistics is strongly recommended. Other recommended courses include clinical psychology, developmental psychology, personality theory, physiological psychology, and psychology of diversity.<\/p>\n

Specifically, applicants to this program must provide:<\/p>\n

  1. One official transcript from each college\/university attended<\/li>\n
  2. Resume or Curriculum Vita<\/li>\n
  3. Personal Statement describing your experience, career goals and interests, and how this program is a good fit with your interests and goals.\u00a0 For applicants to the Applied Pre-Licensure\/Non-Thesis Track previous experience working in behavioral health settings or with individuals with mental illness is a helpful, but not required, experience to highlight.\u00a0 For applicants to the Research\/Thesis Track, you should discuss your research interests and which faculty you would be interested in working with to complete your Thesis.<\/li>\n
  4. Three letters of recommendation, with at least two furnished by instructors who are well acquainted with you.<\/li>\n
  5. GRE General Test Scores<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
