Hanover Grants Consultants have experience supporting faculty to pursue private foundation funding for their research. In addition to the proposal review/revision support for foundation proposals, Hanover is available to provide the following services to help faculty conduct outreach and cultivate relationships with foundation staff prior to developing a formal submission.
Foundation Consultation and Outreach Support
Consultations are an excellent option for PIs seeking advice on how to frame a research project to match a funder’s priorities. Sessions are conducted via conference call and are generally one hour in length with the PI option to close out Hanover’s engagement with a subsequently scheduled 30-minute follow-up call. Please request phone consultations at least one-week prior to the date you would like the phone call to take place. Contact Enrique del Barco (delbarco@ucf.edu) to facilitate the service.
Hanover offers the following types of consultation sessions:
- Research Design and Outreach Consult: For PIs needing guidance on how to pitch a research idea to a program officer.
- Grantseeking Strategy Consult: For PIs looking for expert advice on how to frame a research idea to better align with a funder’s strategic priorities.
Concept Paper Development
Hanover also provides support to faculty developing concept papers for initial outreach to private funders. Hanover Grants Consultants are available to help faculty develop content for concepts in the initial planning stage, as well as provide review/revision support for concept papers that have been previously developed.
Hanover will work closely with the Research, Development and Marketing teams at the College of Sciences to assist faculty in identifying opportunities for private research funding that better fit their research projects. Below, we list the research foundations that have established a partnership with COS faculty in the past, including some basic information about their programs and interests, and the corresponding association to the respective departments/units. If you think that your research project would make a good fit with any of these foundations (or others not in this list), contact Enrique del Barco (delbarco@ucf.edu) to explore the possibilities that our partnership with Hanover Research has to offer to your plans.

The Charles Koch Foundation provides grants to students, scholars, and nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s primary issue areas are: Courageous Collaborations, Criminal Justice Reform, Toleration & Free Speech, Foreign Policy, Economic Freedom, Technology & Innovation, and K-12 Education. The Foundation accepts both general proposals and proposals in response to specific Requests for Proposals.
The Charles Koch Foundation supports proposals from individuals seeking innovative solutions. The best way to find out if your project request is a good match with the goals and vision of the Foundation is to submit an online grant proposal.
The Foundation generally supports only Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) non-profit public charities and universities that are organized and operated within the United States. Grant requests from for-profit corporations will typically not be considered, and requests from individuals will not be considered unless pursuant to a Foundation individual grant program.
Also, the Foundation generally does not provide support for overhead in grants made to universities, colleges, or other similar institutions. Overhead includes, but is not limited to, insufficiently specified and/or insufficiently detailed overhead costs (e.g., a requirement that a fixed percentage of a grant amount be dedicated to grant administration) and fringe benefits.
