January 24, 2019

On Tuesday, January 15, 2019, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced in a letter to the Department of Management Services that “effective immediately, state workers are prohibited from being reimbursed for expenses incurred through the services of Airbnb while on official state business, and all contracts let [entered into] by the state from this date forward shall prohibit such expenses.”

As a result of this change in policy, effective immediately the university will no longer reimburse nor directly pay for Airbnb stays. Any use of the Airbnb service that occurred prior to January 15, 2019, will be reimbursed. Any use occurring after January 15, 2019, must be canceled. The university will pay for/reimburse the cancellation fee. If an employee has a reservation for an Airbnb stay after January 15, 2019, that was not canceled, the university cannot pay for nor reimburse the expense. This change in policy applies to expenses incurred by employees, students, and contractors.
