Dr. Hsin-Hsiung \u201cBill\u201d Huang is a Professor of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF), with promotion to full professor anticipated in 2026. He earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.S. in Statistics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Mathematics from National Taiwan University, and dual B.A.\/B.S. degrees in Economics and Mathematics, also from National Taiwan University.<\/p>\n
Dr. Huang\u2019s research interests include Bayesian ultrahigh-dimensional variable selection, matrix and tensor regression, clustering, classification, and dimension reduction, with a focus on developing new statistical methods for complex, large-scale data. His recent projects encompass spatiotemporal modeling, novel neuroimaging reconstruction algorithms, and threat detection. His work has been supported by multiple grants from the National Science Foundation\u2019s Algorithms for Threat Detection (ATD) program, where he serves as principal investigator, as well as by the National Institutes of Health, where he is a co-investigator on a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) R01 award.<\/p>\n
Dr. Huang\u2019s team at UCF has secured top placements in the ATD Challenge competitions from 2021 to 2023 and earned second place in the 2025 ATD Challenge. Among his recent honors, he received the UCF Research Incentive Award (RIA) in 2021, a UCF College of Sciences Seed Grant in 2023\u201324, the Outstanding Instruction Award in 2024, the UCF Office of Research Mentoring Program Award in 2025, the 2025 UCF College of Sciences OSCaR Award for Outstanding Scholarship, Creative Works, and Research, and election to the International Statistical Institute (ISI). In 2025 he was selected as a Fulbright Specialist for Project, \u201cMachine Learning and Advanced Filtering Techniques,\u201d and will conduct the approved visit at Al-Khwarizmi University in Urgench, Uzbekistan, in April-May 2026.<\/p>\n
