One-month teacher position – Summer 2024

One-month open position for middle and high school teachers in Vaida’s laboratory at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando Florida

Vaida’s research laboratory at University of Central Florida, in Orlando Florida is seeking highly motivated and energetic science teachers to be hired for one-month during the 2024 Summer in an NSF funded program. In this one-month program, the teacher will work in Vaida’s laboratory to develop demonstrations and hands-on activities on optics and photonics. This interdisciplinary project combines physics, chemistry, material science, and engineering. The teacher involved in this project will have to (i) contribute to the construction of simple experiments that can be performed with middle and high school students during science classes and (ii) write step-by-step instruction on how to construct and perform these experiments as well as explain the science behind. Special notice will be paid to translating industry and academic “jargon” into language that is readily accessible to middle and high school students.

-Knowledge of curriculum and child development
-Good planning and organizational skills

-We will help the teachers to develop lecture materials that cover basic information on energy conversion and storage with a focus on clean energy and recent scientific and technological advances in solar fuels.
-We will be happy to continue the collaboration with the teachers beyond the one-month summer position and involve the teachers and their students in other outreach activities, science fairs, and science competitions.
