Information for Participants

Thank you participating in this research! Here are answers to some questions you might have.

Am I eligible to participate?

To be eligible to participate, you must be over 18 years old and either a faculty member or an undergraduate student at an institution of higher education.

How long will the survey take?

Each survey is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.

When is the deadline to participate?

Each survey will be open for a two-week window to allow flexibility in participants’ ability to complete it.

When will I receive the next survey?

The second survey was distributed in January to coincide with the conclusion of the fall semester.

The third survey will be distributed in March/April to coincide with the conclusion of the winter semester.

What are the benefits to me for participating?

You will find out how your resilience is in times of crisis and be provided with resources and tools for stress management and coping during a time of crisis. In addition, investigators will be able to identify resources that are most critical in fostering resilience. By evaluating the impact of this outbreak on undergraduate faculty and students of all disciplines, this project can enhance the undergraduate education infrastructure, improve the delivery of STEM education during extreme disruptions, and protect the well-being of faculty and students collectively experiencing this crisis.

How does compensation work?

Participants will be incentivized with a $3 gift card for each survey completed, for a total of $9 to be paid in full by the end of the study. Individuals who click on the survey but refuse to participate will not be compensated. Participants must complete 85% of each survey in order to be compensated.

Is my information confidential?

All survey responses that the investigator receives will be treated confidentially and stored on a secure server, accessed by the researcher on a password protected computer. However, given that the surveys can be completed from any computer (personal, work, school, etc.), we are unable toguarantee the security of the computer on which you choose to enter your response. Email addresses will be collected at the start of the survey to link responses forpartstwo and three. The data collected from the items on the survey will be associated with each participant’s email address during data collection. After data collection is complete, all identifying information will be removed. Only the researcherswill have access to this data. Responses will be reported in the aggregate, and no individual responses will be reported or shared with anyone.Information collected as part of this research will not be used or distributed for future research studies.
