A university building with a large fountain in front at sunset; a yellow banner reads "WELCOME TO THE LAMP LAB!.

The Law, Applied Memory, and Psychology (LAMP) Lab is based in the Department of Psychology at the University of Central Florida. We work at the intersection of psychology, criminal justice, and the law — applying principles of cognitive and social psychology to real-world problems with consequential outcomes for people’s everyday lives. The lab incorporates a range of methodological approaches (e.g., experimental designs, survey research, public record requests). We’re committed to building knowledge that is both scientifically rigorous and practically useful. Our current areas of focus include:

  • Memory and technology: How do emerging technologies like facial recognition software affect memory and decision-making in legal contexts?
  • Eyewitness identifications: How can we obtain reliable information from eyewitnesses, and what distinguishes accurate accounts from inaccurate ones?
  • Research methodology: How can social scientists design, conduct, and report their work to maximize rigor and transparency?

Interested in Joining the Lab?

The LAMP Lab is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment. We welcome students and scholars who are curious about memory science, technology, and the justice system.

  • Undergraduate Students: Research Assistants play an active role in the lab’s work. If you’re interested in joining the lab, please complete this survey.
  • Graduate Students: Students interested in joining the LAMP lab should apply to the UCF Human Factors & Cognitive Psychology Ph.D. program. Applications for the Fall 2027 PhD are currently open. You are welcome to contact Dr. Greenspan with questions before applying.
  • Post-Doctoral Scholars: Researchers interested in a postdoctoral position are encouraged to contact Dr. Greenspan directly to discuss potential opportunities.
