Welcome to the Bulbous Lab

The logo reads "Bulbous Lab" in stylized text, with the "o" depicted as a brown garlic bulb sprouting green leaves.

Research in the Bulbous Lab focuses on understanding plant trait evolution; why do plants look the way that they do? Our research combines bioinformatics, phylogenetics, ecology, morphology and anatomy to understand plant evolution at both broad (e.g., monocots) and shallow phylogenetic scales (e.g., Asparagaceae). We regularly leverage publicly available data as well as generate our own novel datasets to test hypotheses on plant evolution and diversification. Many research projects have a particular focus on understanding the fascinating ways that plants have evolved belowground bud placement, a geographically, morphologically, and phylogenetically diverse habit.
