  • Here is the Power Point notes from the UCF Info Session Clinical Psych MA 2014
  • If you want to be a therapist: Both the Clinical Psych MA and the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA prepare you to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). There is also a Clinical Social Work Masters (MSW) to prepare to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Marriage and Family MA to prepare to be a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) offered at UCF. All these counselors have the same salary (starting about $30k/year in FL) but I have heard job prospects are better for LCSWs since government agencies prefer this one. You can go on to doctorate in Psych with the Clinical Psych MA (with thesis) or the Clinical Social Work MSW. You can get your doctorate in counseling if you want to be a professor for counselors. Only the psychology MA will require psychology prereq courses. There are also other kinds of counselors like ABA, Rehabilitation, Genetic, and more! You can research the programs that UCF offers in the grad catalog here: https://www.ucf.edu/catalog/graduate/#/programs   I recommend you reach out to different therapists to gain more insight about what you want to do (you can find UCF Alumni on LinkedIn)Or if you want your doctorate (PhD or PsyD), you need at least 1 year of research experience. Info on getting involved in research here: https://sciences.ucf.edu/psychology/undergraduate-advising/opportunities-in-psychology/undergraduate-research/ Use the APA website to find accredited PhD and PsyD programs: https://www.accreditation.apa.org/accredited-programs
