Hi everyone! I know we’ve talked about Coaching Actuaries a lot this semester and I just wanted to give a more in-depth opinion on why I believe it is one of the best resources to help you pass your actuarial exams.
The online manual is great at teaching you the necessary concepts for the exams. It is concise without feeling too brief. The examples are also extremely helpful. They also have helpful asides called “Coach’s Remarks” which provide a little extra depth or context about what kinds of questions can appear on the exam and clarifications regarding certain topics, among other things. In addition, the discussions at the end of each lesson are very helpful since their Coaches will answer your questions promptly and completely.
My favorite part of Coaching Actuaries is the Video Lessons that supplement the written lessons. They are great at summarizing the text-based material with helpful visualizations while maintaining the level of detail found in the written lessons. These have been the most helpful resource for me throughout my time using Coaching Actuaries.
Probably the most unique aspect of Coaching Actuaries that sets it apart from other study providers is its ADAPT system. As you continue to take practice exams, the difficulty level of the exams will change as you do better or worse. You can also customize practice quizzes to be a certain difficulty level, focus on questions written by the SOA/CAS or by CA, and focus on questions you have missed in the past. This is great when you are drilling practice problems both during your learning phase and during your practice phase, as you can emphasize sections that are giving you trouble.
All in all, I have absolutely loved my experience with Coaching Actuaries. Without it, I would not have been able to pass three exams all on the first try. The layout of the website is appealing and conducive to effective studying. The solutions to their practice questions are extremely clear and help me highlight and understand my mistakes. The manuals are great for those who didn’t take any relevant classes prior to studying for the exam (like me). I can’t recommend Coaching Actuaries enough.
