2016 EverBank Cup Contest

EverBank and the University of Central Florida Data Mining Program are pleased to announce the 4th Annual EverBank Cup Contest. The contest consists of two classification tasks based on publically available unstructured data including descriptions about companies.

Contest Tasks:

Contestants will be provided with one dataset containing 1 nominal target, the target represents the industry type of all companies/potential clients. The goal is to build a predictive model that will accurately categorize each company’s industry type. A scoring data set is provided. The variable Weight inversely shows the repetition of each record according to “Article”. For example if one Article exactly repeated for 4 times, weight of this article in those 4 records would be 0.25.

Contestants are required to submit the following materials for judging:

  • Project report that includes
    • Cover page with registration number, name and contact information. This should be the only page that identifies the contestant.
    • Executive summary: one paragraph
    • Data preparation: two pages
    • Modeling approach: two pages
    • Results and conclusions (including test results performed on your model): two pages
    • SAS Code and/or SAS Enterprise Miner Model
  • The scoring data set with the following fields:
    • The company_id
    • Article
    • Weight
    • Industry type for the target

All entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • 40% – The contents in the Project Report. Higher weighting will be given to those providing clear analysis and reasoning behind the selected modeling approach and keywords.
  • 40% – Model measurement:
    • Accuracy Rate – 20%
    • AUC (area under the ROC curve) – 10%
    • Cumulative percent captured target in the top 3 deciles – 10%
  • 10% – Keywords and methodologies, e.g. importance of keywords
  • 10% – SAS Enterprise Miner model and/or SAS code used for scoring

Entries will be judged based on the methodologies and accuracy (60%-40% weightage, respectively). The overall goal should be to meet at least 85% accuracy.

This year’s contest is open to students currently enrolled full-time or part-time at any University or College in the state of Florida. Faculty and staff are not eligible for participation.
