Grad wins award for article

NSC journalism graduate Jennifer Brett, ’01, recently won a first place national award from the boating industry for an article she wrote last year.

Brett has been an avid boater for years and even lived on a sailboat with her husband.

After graduation, Brett was able to land a job with one of the Orlando area newspapers writing on various subjects. After a year she relocated to Key West where her husband worked for a charter business and she worked at a radio station, both on and off air.

Within two years they relocated to the Newport, R.I. area, which is known for its boating and sailing. Brett was offered a job at a national sailing magazine writing various articles about the boating industry and family living. Because of her writing abilities she rose to the level of managing editor.

After taking a break for the birth of their second child, Brett took a job with a larger national magazine called, Cruising World.
