Alumni Publish New Literature

Congratulations to Brian Lackovic, ’94, who recently published his book, The Celestial Connection, a part historical fiction, part cyber espionage thriller. The premise of the book is a mysterious phone cable and an old set of train tracks long forgotten in Jupiter, Fla. connect the lives of two individuals who are separated by 120 years. Lackovic graduated from UCF with a bachelor’s degree in mathematical science.

Congratulations to Nathan Holic, ’02 & ‘07, who just published his first novel, American Fraternity Man. This is a story of Charles Washington, a college graduate brimming with idealism and promise, which is swept up in the Compassion Boom. At the height of the financial meltdown, he takes a job as an educational consultant with the Nu Kappa Epsilon National Fraternity Headquarters: he will crisscross the country to clean up the corroded culture of fraternity life, driving from college to college, fraternity house to fraternity house, conducting leadership development workshops and serving as a 24/7 role model. Charles will whisk away the alcoholism and drug abuse, and put an end to the hazing. He will help transform 21st-century fraternity life into a leadership experience just as enriching as the Boy Scouts. The only problem: Charles isn’t nearly the clean-cut role model he wants to believe he is, and very quickly, he finds himself caught in a whirlwind of alcohol, parties, hazing, and sex, testing his new values and threatening his entire future. Holic graduated from UCF with a bachelor’s degree in advertising-public relations and a master’s degree in creative writing.
