The India Center at UCF welcomed Tanvi Madan, Ph.D., senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institution, for a discussion on “The India-US-China Triangle: Past, Present and Prospects,” on November 9, 2023.

Madan positioned India’s relationship with the United States and China in a historical context and discussed the shifting relationships against the backdrop of global and regional politics. These include the need to balance between the U.S. and the Soviet Union during the Cold War era, for example, as well as recent border disputes between India and China and the importance of trade relations, economic ties, and geostrategic and military considerations.

After her presentation, Madan answered questions from the audience, and students discussed additional topics of interest with the speaker.

“With India’s recent rise as the most populus country in the world, Dr. Madan’s lecture offered a new perspective on understanding the policies and politics between the United States and India in relationship to China,” said Leila Chacko, Director of Public Affairs for the India Center. “We hope with this lecture, guests have a better understanding of the evolving connections between these three countries.”
